Majority of physical pains and dysfunctions are contributed, if not caused, by poor posture and movement mechanics. Therapists are HolistiCare will help you identify the underlying postural/movement dysfunction, so you won’t have to come back for the same problem in the future.
Although not a traditional Physical Therapy intervention, Dr. Jason Chang has had great success using cupping therapy for various soft tissue dysfunctions.
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of Chinese alternative medicine, in which suction is created on the skin via cupping device and a mechanical pump.
Cupping therapy could be performed by placing the cups directly on areas of the body in a stationary manner, as well as moving the cup on the skin with some oil to prevent excess abrasion.
When cupping therapy is performed, it is normal to experience bruising at the site of the cupping. The bruising can last as short as a few hours to as long as 7 days.
It is theorized that the severity of the bruising is a direct reflection of the problem at the area of treatment.
How it works?
Gua-Sha is a traditional Chinese medicinal practice that uses instrument-assisted (traditionally a coin or the edge of a soup soon) soft tissue mobilization to scrape along particular body parts to restore proper energy flow throughout the body. Gua-Sha can also be used to effectively address scar tissue adhesions or soft tissue restrictions.
Gua-Sha, one can argue, is the inexpensive predecessor to the highly marketed treatment products/techniques called Graston or ASTYM.
Sports taping is a treatment technique that has gained tremendous popularity, especially among athletes. Although the body of scientific evidence is scarce, one cannot deny the commercial success of sports taping. Popular products such as Kinesio or Rock tape theorize its efficacy based on the tape’s ability to increase muscular activation, decrease muscular tone, correct muscular movement dysfunctions, improve posture, reduce swelling, off load tension, increase circulation, as well as decrease pain sensitivity based on the application technique.
